The JPEG XS* codec is a coding/decoding technology that features almost no video degradation even when the video data is compressed to 10% of its original size. It also features under-1-millisecond low latency in compression processing.
In 8K program production, four coaxial cables used to be required for the transmission of one 8K video stream. The developed device using the 8K JPEG XS codec makes it possible to transmit two 8K video streams on a 10 Gigabit Ethernet cable simultaneously. Therefore, it will lead to a significant reduction in equipment costs.
Furthermore, combining the developed device with an forward error correction device for IP transmission brings more stable long-distance transmission, and it can contribute to cutting line costs for 8K program production with high-bandwidth video transmission.
